Culture Minister Miki Zohar vowed to strip their citizenship. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said military lawyers were preparing legal action, accusing the pair of "blood libels, deliberate distortions of reality". Prime Minister Netanyahu pushed forward legislation to revoke citizenship from Israelis who "defame" soldiers abroad.
Journalists and filmmakers must be free to document and question the conduct of governments and militaries without fear of losing their homes, their safety, or their citizenship. Threatening to strip filmmakers of nationality for their work sets a dangerous precedent that chills press freedom and artistic expression everywhere.
